Jubilee Women’s Center supports women experiencing poverty to build stable and fulfilling futures. Led by the guiding principle that women of all races and cultures are to be treated with respect and dignity, Jubilee provides programs and services that empower women to make positive life changes. Since 1983, Jubilee Women’s Center has transformed the lives of over a thousand homeless and low-income women by providing safe, affordable and supportive community housing and educational resources to empower each woman to become financially independent, regardless of her circumstances.

Last month, Liz, our Executive Director and Candice, our Program Director attended the National Women's Shelter Network's 2026 Annual Conference in Tucson with nonprofit leaders from women's shelter and transitional programs across the country.

Liz presented on the Elements of a Successful Fundraising Event and Candice presented at the Transitional Shelter and Housing Programs session.

In addition, there were myriad discussions and panels on topics such as promoting successful program transitions, trauma-informed care, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, sharing impact through data, and so much more. The conference closed out with a compelling keynote address from Piper Kerman, bestselling memoir-writer of “Orange is the New Black” and social justice advocate.

In attendance with us were our friends and community partners from Elizabeth Gregory Home, ED Ally Baehr, and Day Center Manager, Andy Gallegos.

It was invigorating to be with hundreds of others doing the good and difficult work of advocating for and providing housing and programming for those in our communities in need of shelter.

We returned to Seattle excited to implement new innovative ideas for the extraordinary women of Jubilee. We are so grateful to have been a part of such a special event.

We were grateful to be invited to participate in Microsoft’s annual GIVE Month! Microsoft volunteers put together over 200 wellness packages filled with self-care items for the women of Jubilee.

Today is World Homeless Day, with the aim of bringing awareness to preventing and ending homelessness and alleviating the suffering of those experiencing it.

100% of Jubilee program participants have entered into our houses from homelessness. This is our work, and has been for over twenty-five years.

Thanks to our generous donors and volunteers, the second annual Luxe Sale was a tremendous success!

Together, we raised more than $33,000 — an extraordinary show of generosity that will make a meaningful difference for the women who receive essential needs support through Jubilee’s Free Clothing Boutique.

From the moment the doors opened, the day was filled with excitement, connection, and community. Every purchase, donation, volunteer hour, and shared invitation played a part in making this event possible and expanding Jubilee’s ability to provide low-income women with beautiful, quality clothing and essential items at no cost.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

A primary obstacle to safety for survivors of domestic violence is economic insecurity, including the inability to afford or secure housing. We at Jubilee have had many survivors of domestic violence come through our doors at periods in their lives when these women had few to no other choices. Housing and personal safety were and continue to be the priority.

We honor survivors while continuing to work on programming that will help women heal and move on. Women should be able to leave abusive relationships without worrying about where they’ll live.

At Jubilee, we believe that finding stable employment can be an important step toward greater independence. With support from their case manager, participants can build the skills and confidence they need to pursue living-wage careers—from computer and communication skills to resume and cover letter writing and interview preparation.

Once a month we take a field trip to a more accessible and affordable grocery store so our program participants can stretch their limited funds, while still accessing healthy options.

It may not even be October, but on our latest run, we got a jump-start to spooky season and grabbed some Halloween decor for the house!
