Arts Education Month celebrates the many benefits of arts learning in the
lives of students, educators, and families across Washington state!
What's your reason for celebrating this month?
1. Arts learning plays a critical role in students' sense of belonging and well-being.
2. Arts education supports academic achievement, interdisciplinary thinking
and access to creative career opportunities.
3. The arts help students preserve, celebrate and share cultural practices.
4. The law recognizes the arts as a core academic subject within basic education including dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts.
Thank you to all the PreK-12 teachers, teaching artists, families, culture bearers, and the community members who make arts education possible!

It's May, and that means we should be celebrating Arts Education Month but we're focusing our energy on PROTECTING the arts and raising funds for ADVOCATING.
And we need your support!

Did you know that Washington State is talking about removing the arts credit requirements for high school graduation?
Over the last few weeks, ArtsEd members have shared dozens of letters with the state board, and our organization has received even more emails, phone calls, and meeting requests asking for guidance.
Our small, dedicated team at ArtsEd Washington is honored to be a trusted resource in these challenging conversations, and we look forward to hearing more of your questions and stories about art offerings in your schools.
This is precisely the type of systems level advocacy work that needs to be funded.
Visit our GiveBIG page to learn more, and please consider donating to ensure that we can continue providing timely arts updates and representing the arts in state discussions.

In 2026, Washington’s arts education ecosystem faces real challenges. Public funding is tightening, leaving school districts short on resources, and straining nonprofits like ArtsEd Washington.
Without increased support, we’ll have to scale back our statewide advocacy, professional development for educators, and community partnerships.
We are asking our supporters to help fund our Statewide Coordination & Network Infrastructure. Every training, resource, and workshop we deliver depends on the coordination, research, and relationship-building that happen quietly behind the scenes: invisible building blocks which are rarely funded by program grants, especially in today's environment.
The continuation of this work depends on the people who believe in its value. Donate today to sustain our critical partnerships and programming!
