Friends of Licorice Fern Natural Area deeply appreciate the financial support we received in 2014 for improvements to the Natural Area.. Funding and Project support came from:

King Conservation District – Seattle Community Partnership Grant
City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Neighborhood Matching Fund
City of Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation

January 2015 - New Features 01/21/2015

The yellow flags are to protect the small shrubs along the trails.

Big changes at Licorice Fern, two new gravel trails, an elegant signboard, and hundreds of new trees and shrubs planted, all during 2014. Things are moving!

Summertime means watering!
We are rotating the watering duty among the Steering Committee members. The city fills our 1100 gallon cistern, and we water the many hundreds of plants from it via the hoses hooked up to it. Tedious work, sometimes hard to stay upright on the slopes, but essential to get our babies through the intense sun of summer.

Kelly and I met this morning (in light drizzle) with Alex from Earthcorps and Michael from Seattle Parks. They were impressed with the work that our volunteers have done. We visited some of the more obscure parts of the Natural Area to plan for future work efforts there. We're moving out from the central area!
