Congratulations to the 2026 Food Sovereignty Prize Honorees!

The US Food Sovereignty Alliance and Climate Justice Alliance are thrilled to announce the honorees of the 18th Annual Food Sovereignty Prize!
🏆2026 domestic winner: CATA (Farmworker Support Committee)
🏆 2026 international winner: World Alliance of Mobile Indigenous Peoples & Pastoralists (WAMIP)

Each year the Prize is given to two organizations - one domestic and one international - for their exemplary work to advance 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾This year's honorees are both notable for sustaining communities whose human rights are under threat of government repression as well as unchecked corporate power. By organizing locally and regionally to dignify food workers and protect sustainable rural livelihoods they are shining beacons of hope.

Al Jazeera: Africa’s Green Revolution Threatens Traditional Foods

Million Belay, Coordinator of AFSA - Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa - and Timothy A. Wise write:

"This year, AGRA, the donor-funded agricultural development initiative formerly known as the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, is celebrating its 20th anniversary....We have documented how AGRA’s Green Revolution, with its well-funded promotion of commercial seeds, fertilisers and other inputs, has failed to spur the “productivity revolution” promised by its founders.

Worse still, its promotion of monocultures, such as maize, has led to the massive expansion of land dedicated to them. At the same time, more resilient and nutritious local crops, such as millet, are losing ground.

The promotion of monocultures is hurting the production of much more nutritious and climate-resistant traditional crops.
