Meet WCIT!
In Washington state, we depend on our global competitiveness. Trade – both exports and imports – paves the way for Washington-made goods and services to reach foreign markets, provides Washingtonians with products that raise our quality of life, and sustains family-wage jobs in numerous local industries.
International trade touches every corner of Washington state. Walla Walla wines are exported to Japan while Seattle retailers source clothes and shoes from Vietnam; Redmond software is used in France, Spokane lentils are eaten in India, and Everett-assembled airplanes fly around the world. It’s no surprise that 40% of Washington jobs are tied to international trade!
Numerous trade barriers prevent Washington workers and employers from effectively competing globally and reaching their full potential. High tariffs (import taxes), unpredictable and discriminatory foreign regulations, harmful port policies, poor transportation infrastructure, and numerous other issues hinder Washington businesses’ success.
The Washington Council on International Trade is the only organization advocating for policies and investments to address these concerns. On behalf of its members – manufacturers, farmers, retailers, service providers and non-profits – WCIT advocates for pro-trade policies and investments that benefit Washington’s workers and employers.
