County offices are closed today, Monday, October 12 to observe and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day. I hope you will join me in honoring the history, culture, and countless contributions of Indigenous communities. We acknowledge that we are on the unceded ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. We recognize with gratitude these caretakers of the land who have lived here since time immemorial and who continue to live here.

This acknowledgement is a reminder of the connection between all of us and this land. ✨

Ballard neighbors, City of Seattle Councilmember and Sound Transit Board Member Dan Strauss is hosting a follow up community meeting to continue our conversation about the future of the Ballard light rail on Monday, October 19 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the National Nordic Museum.

Sound Transit staff will present on the latest developments and I, along with other local leaders, will be there to listen to your comments and concerns regarding this project.

Let’s continue the conversation and advocacy to get light rail to Ballard. See you there!🚊

I am proud that King County and the City of Seattle are joining other local jurisdictions around the country to fight back against attempts by the Trump Administration to make it more difficult for immigrants to secure green cards.

The lawsuit filed today challenges a new federal rule, known as the public charge rule, that would let officials deny green cards and visas to immigrants simply for using public benefits they are legally entitled to, like food assistance, housing help, and health care.

No one should have to choose between the services their family needs and their path to citizenship. In King County, we support our immigrant neighbors.

This morning, I joined Mayor Wilson and Chief Barnes of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) as they provided updates to the public regarding yesterday’s tragic shooting at the Seattle Center. I stood in solidarity with other elected leaders to convey our condolences to the friends and family of the three individuals who tragically lost their lives, the additional people who were injured, and the many witnesses present at the scene yesterday who will carry this senseless violence with them.

This is an ongoing investigation, and I encourage anyone who has information or was present at the scene to share tips with Seattle Police by calling 206-233-5000.
