We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for Byrd Barr Place’s Legacy in Motion Gala. Your presence, generosity, and belief in our mission remind us that this work has always been about more than services. It is about the people, relationships, and shared commitment that make a stronger, more equitable community possible.

As we reflect on the impact of the past 62 years, we invite you to be part of what comes next. Together, we can continue breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and building a future where every member of our community can thrive. Here’s to carrying this legacy forward for another 60-plus years, rooted in our community, rising through collective action, and driven by the belief that lasting change happens when we move forward together.

Thank you for being part of our story. The next chapter of our legacy starts with all of us.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about more than wearing pink. It’s about making sure every woman has access to the information, care, and support she needs to make informed decisions about her health.

Black women in the U.S. face the highest breast cancer mortality rate of any racial or ethnic group. Early detection, understanding personal risk, keeping up with recommended screenings, and speaking with a healthcare provider about changes can make a difference.

Awareness matters, but action matters, too. Take time to schedule a screening, learn about your risk, and encourage the women in your life to prioritize their health. Your health deserves attention, and your life matters.

Progress can look different depending on where you stand. A report may document a change, but the people living through it can speak to what that change means in their daily lives, what remains overlooked, and what deserves closer attention.

Whose perspective helps define progress in your community? What has changed in ways that matter to you? What should people making decisions understand beyond the numbers?

For the Record gives you space to share that context in your own words. Your perspective adds depth to the community story and helps document experiences that deserve to be part of the public record.

Put it on the record. Take the survey.

On October 10, we gathered with community members, leaders, advocates, and supporters for an evening rooted in our shared commitment to building a more just Seattle. Legacy in Motion celebrated the connections, collective action, and community power that continue to move our mission forward.

From meaningful conversations and powerful voices to moments of generosity during our auction, the evening reflected what we can accomplish when we come together with purpose. Our legacy is built through the people we stand alongside, the relationships we nurture, and our collective commitment to a future where everyone can thrive with dignity and opportunity.

Our work continues, and we invite you to be part of it. Help us keep this legacy in motion by sharing our mission, connecting neighbors with our resources, advocating for a more equitable Seattle, and supporting our work. Together, we can strengthen our community and build a future rooted in dignity, opportunity, and belonging.
