Public problems do not respect borders, so it is important that we regionally work across city and county lines to respond to homelessness, transportation, law enforcement and sundry other public issues, so I invited Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello to be our speaker at the Good Eggs breakfast at Emerald Downs. TOGETHER We Can!!

Memorial Day is a national day of honoring those who served, but on my visits to WA DC I am drawn to the Vietnam Wall, and specifically the name of a grade school friend who was offered OCS, but went in as a patriotic private, got married before his tour, and never came back, and never held his child! Freedom has never been free. Thank you EVERY day to those who served, and my appreciation and prayers to their families!

Whether it is an “Atmospheric River” or a storm, the December floods are still impacting the city of Pacific; CX Zahilay and I met with Mayor Vic Kave about the recovery after touring the lingering flood damage along the river. The people of Pacific showed great strength during and after the longest-lasting storm in Puget sound history. It is reassuring that King County (2.4M) has a leader who goes out to listen.

Vaisakhi Day marks the 1699 founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh, and is an important celebration of the over 50,000 Sikhs who live in King County, including the Khalsa Gurmat Center in Federal Way. KCC Steffanie Fain and I co-sponsored a proclamation honoring this holiday! Thanks to Kent CM Satwinder Kaur, David Malik, Vijay Beniwal, Kuldip Singh and Jaskaran Singh Sarao

Every 8 minutes Sound Transit will cross Lk Washington into Seattle from 4:17 AM until 12:15 AM and toward Bellevue from 5:44 AM until 12:30 AM, linking a 58 mile light rail system at a time when the price of gas is over $5 a gallon. Great joining former ST CEO’s and thousands of passengers for the official inaugural run.

“Life is 10 % what happens to you and 90 % how you respond to it. “
“Do the right thing. Do your best. Show people you care.” “Everybody needs four things in life, something to do, someone to love, someone to believe in, and something to hope for.” I met Coach Holtz once in Tacoma, but I recall his words EVERY week. RIP Lou Holtz!

“Keep Hope Alive.” “You may be in the slum, but the slum doesn’t have to be in you.” In the 1970’s I had the opportunity to talk with Rev Jesse Jackson with Sen George Fleming, and then George and I escorted Jesse to speak to a session of the Legislature where he wowed the audience with his oratory skills; he had everyone in the palm of us hand! An original!!
