The Human Rights Commission is an independent advisory commission dedicated to equality & justice.

The Human Rights Commission consists of representative citizens of Seattle appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve in an advisory capacity to the Mayor, City Council, Seattle Office for Civil Rights, and other Seattle City departments in matters affecting human rights.

This past weekend, the Seattle Human Rights Commission had a successful annual retreat. Commission leadership changed hands from Co-Chairs Avery Hultgren, Phil Lewis and Bryennah Quander to new Vice Chair Beverly Smith and Chair Gwen McCullough.
Former Co-Chair Hultgren was elected Treasurer, and former Co-Chair Quander was elected to Chair our Events Committee.
New SHRC Leadership are overseeing a reorganization to streamline our processes and better engage and serve Seattle. We're looking forward to an exciting new year! If you would like to join us in our work supporting human rights for Seattle, we encourage you to apply!

To celebrate Human Rights Day, we at the Seattle Human Rights Commission are hosting a community resource fair to help the community better connect with many amazing organizations throughout Seattle. This year we are focusing the event on highlighting and uplifting the voices within our immigrant communities. Come along to meet community organizations, hear speakers, have some food, learn, and hear some music! Everyone is welcome, please use QR code in post to register on Eventbrite.

We had a great time last Friday during our screening and panel discussion of the documentary "Evicting the American Dream" with Panelists Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Dr. Tim Thomas, Jeff Paul, and Vallen Solomon joining us for an amazing conversation afterwards.

A great big thank you to the panelists, the staff at Kakao for hosting the event, and to all of the community members who joined us for the experience.
