China delivers 60,000 tons of rice to Cuba to support the country during an ongoing food shortage crisis 🌾🌍

China has sent 60,000 tons of rice to Cuba as part of an emergency aid package approved earlier this year. The shipment is aimed at helping ease severe food shortages affecting millions of people across the island.

Cuba’s population of around 11 million consumes roughly 600,000 tons of rice annually, meaning this donation can cover more than a month of national demand. The country relies heavily on imports, while domestic production has dropped sharply over the years due to shortages of fuel, equipment, and resources.

Along with food aid, China has also provided financial support to help address urgent needs, including energy challenges. This assistance comes as multiple countries continue to step in with aid, highlighting the scale of the situation and the importance of international support.

China Brings Solar Power And Hope To Cuba Amid Blackouts
While many nations pour resources into conflict, China has stepped up with concrete support for Cuba’s energy crisis. Recent shipments include multiple batches of 5,000 photovoltaic systems each, totaling around 15,000 complete solar kits with panels, batteries and inverters. These are going to remote homes, health clinics, emergency services, daycare centers and other vital facilities across the island.
Beyond the donations, China remains Cuba’s top supplier of solar equipment. In 2025 alone it shipped over 117 million dollars’ worth of photovoltaic gear. Dozens of Chinese-backed solar parks are already operating or under construction, helping raise solar’s share of Cuba’s electricity generation and easing the daily blackouts that have hit millions of people.
Cuban officials and the Chinese ambassador have publicly thanked Beijing for the steady flow of aid, calling it practical solidarity that improves living conditions and supports the country’s energy transition. Everyday Cubans are seeing lights return to isolated communities and essential services stay online even when the national grid fails.
This partnership is delivering real power and real hope where it is needed most.
