Prepared today. Ready for tomorrow.

On Sunday, October 18, Shoreline Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers put their emergency response skills to the test during a hands-on training exercise at City Hall.

From simulated injuries to realistic disaster scenarios, volunteers practiced the skills, teamwork, and decision-making needed to respond when emergencies happen.

CERT volunteers play an important role in strengthening our community's emergency preparedness. These exercises help build the confidence and experience needed to support neighbors when it matters most.

We had 28 people successfully complete the CERT-Basics course. Thank you to all the volunteers, participants, and organizers who helped make this training possible!

🚨The City of Shoreline is alerting community members to a recent scam in which individuals are receiving fraudulent emails that appear to come from the City’s Planning Commission. The emails claim that recipients have an outstanding invoice that they must pay by wire transfer. The emails and invoices are both fraudulent.

Please note: The City of Shoreline will NEVER ask you to make payment by wire transfer. Permit payments are only accepted through our eTRAKiT Permit Portal; when you call us to make a payment by phone; or in person with a credit card or check.

⚠️ Reminder: Emergency response training is happening at City Hall TODAY. ⚠️

From 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. today, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) participants will conduct a simulated disaster response exercise on the Shoreline City Hall campus.

If you're near City Hall this afternoon, you may see volunteers with realistic-looking simulated injuries, hear people calling or screaming for help, or notice activity that resembles an emergency response.

This is a planned training exercise, NOT a real emergency.

CERT training helps community members build the skills needed to assist their neighbors during disasters and other emergencies.

Heads up, Shoreline! Emergency response training is happening at City Hall this weekend.

The City of Shoreline is hosting a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course October 16–18. As part of the course, participants will conduct a simulated disaster response exercise on Sunday, October 18, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the Shoreline City Hall campus.

During the exercise, you may notice:
- Volunteers portraying disaster survivors with realistic-looking simulated injuries
- Loud noises, including people calling or screaming for help
- Emergency response activities that may appear concerning

Please know that this is a planned training exercise, NOT a real emergency.

These hands-on exercises help CERT participants practice essential disaster response skills, including building assessments and emergency triage, so they can better support our community during an actual emergency.

Today's the day! Are you ready to ShakeOut?

The City of Shoreline is participating in the 2026 Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on today at 10:15 a.m.!

The Great ShakeOut is an annual earthquake preparedness event where millions of people across the United States and around the world practice what to do during an earthquake. While the actions may seem simple, practicing them helps build muscle memory, reinforces how to respond under stress, and provides an opportunity to identify potential safety concerns or gaps in our preparedness before a real earthquake occurs.

At 10:15 a.m. we encourage you to practice three simple actions:
DROP to your hands and knees.
COVER your head and neck under a sturdy desk or table, if available.
HOLD ON until the shaking stops. (60 seconds for the drill).

Tomorrow is the Great Washington ShakeOut. At 10:15 a.m. on October 15, take a few minutes to practice what you would do during an earthquake:

Heading to the grocery store? Consider picking up an extra item for the Shoreline Food Drive.

Hopelink’s most-needed food items include:
- Canned meals and meats
- Healthy cereal and oats
- Dried or canned fruits and vegetables
- Pasta, rice and other grains
- Soup and broth
- Shelf-stable non-dairy milk
- Nut and seed butters
- Cooking oils and spices

Non-food items are needed, too, including baby supplies, hygiene products, toilet paper, paper towels, and reusable or paper grocery bags.

Donations can be dropped off through October 31 at Shoreline City Hall or Spartan Recreation Center.

Please donate items that are non-perishable, not expired, and in their original, unopened packaging.

Earthquakes can also trigger tsunamis. If you are near the coast and feel strong or prolonged shaking, Drop, Cover, and Hold On. When the shaking stops, move to high ground or inland and stay there until officials say it is safe to return.

As part of the Great Washington ShakeOut on October 15 at 10:15 a.m., Washington will also test its All-Hazards Alert Broadcast Sirens along the coast. The sirens will use a wailing sound, followed by a message confirming that it is a test.

If you are near the coast that morning and hear the sirens, this is only a test.
