The Schooner Lavengro

Have you taken a picture you love of the Schooner Lavengro? We are looking for photos we can use with permission to celebrate and promote our Centennial!

Today volunteers took advantage of the weather window to downrig the Lavengro. Sails were taken down for inspection and maintenance, blocks were removed for servicing, and lines were stowed away. This is the kickoff of our winter maintenance season we will be working through the cold months to make the schooner beautiful for 2026!

It's been a fantastic year for the Schooner, with public sails taking hundreds of folks out on the water to get first-hand experience with tall ship sailing. This year's maintenance is especially important, as 2026 will be the Lavengro's 100-year anniversary, and we want to have her in top condition to celebrate!

The Lavengro is operated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit Northwest Schooner Society, and maintained and crewed with volunteers, so your support makes a huge difference. Every contribution helps keep her sailing!

Recently completed work at Thomas Boat Repair!

The color contrast under the new rubbing strake is due to the white primer on the replaced plank. All the new work will be painted by volunteers to match the rest of the ship.

Captain Charles, one of our volunteer captains at the Center for Wooden Boats, is also a maritime artist! Below is an oil painting from when the ship was at Thomas Boat Repair last year.

This painting is also for sale! Charles has generously offered to donate all proceeds from the sale of his Schooner Lavengro pieces to the Northwest Schooner Society, specifically to support of the maintenance of the ship!

Nice sailing and a good day today! We passed our annual Coast Guard inspection this morning (which included MOB drills under sail in significant wind) and then moved the ship to Thomas Boat Repair in Ballard.

In our way out, we caught sight of Schooner Adventuress several times on her own way westbound.

The Schooner Lavengro is owned by the Northwest Schooner Society, a nonprofit with the mission of helping share and spread maritime culture in the Pacific Northwest, doing so through hands-on experience!

Even with the generous time and efforts of a dedicated volunteer restoration crew, the cost of supplies in keeping a 98-year-old wooden ship in good condition can be expensive! The Lavengro operates on donations as well as charters hosted through our partners at Lake Unions Charters and Adventures!
