Dear NEST friends,
What a vibrant, busy, and truly eventful year 2025 has been for NEST. Throughout the year, our community buzzed with energy, connection, and purpose as members, volunteers, donors, and partners came together to support one another and celebrate the experience of aging well. Each month brought new opportunities to learn, gather, and grow. The enthusiasm and participation we saw across our programs reflected the strong sense of belonging that defines NEST.
Our calendar was filled with engaging and thought-provoking lecture presentations covering a wide range of topics that inspired conversation and lifelong learning. At the same time, we expanded our interest group offerings, creating even more opportunities for members to connect through shared passions. From social gatherings and educational programs to wellness activities and simple moments of shared enjoyment, these groups fostered meaningful connections and deeper engagement across our community. The increased member engagement and participation made this one of the most active years in NEST’s history.
Beyond programming, 2025 was also a year of strengthening relationships. Our volunteers continued to show extraordinary dedication, offering their time and talents to help fellow members remain connected and supported. Our sponsors and community partners played a vital role in helping us expand opportunities and enhance the experiences we offer. Most importantly, our donors showed amazing generosity, proving that strong communities are built when we all support one another.
We are especially proud to report that NEST ended the fiscal year on strong financial footing, made possible by a highly successful year-end fundraising campaign. The outpouring of support during this campaign ensured that we can continue to provide engaging programs, valuable resources, and meaningful connections well into the future. This financial stability allows us to look ahead with confidence as we continue to innovate and grow.
As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with gratitude for the remarkable community that makes NEST what it is today. We look forward to building on the momentum of 2025 — expanding our offerings, welcoming new members, and creating even more opportunities for engagement, learning, and community in the year ahead.

Exciting advances in medical science are changing the way we think about cancer detection. Multi-cancer early detection tests aim to identify multiple types of cancer —sometimes before symptoms appear—using a simple blood sample. But how accurate are they? Who should consider them? And what questions still remain? We are honored to welcome Dr. Ruth Etzioni to speak on this impactful area of research. Join us for an informative discussion about the promise, the limitations, and what these emerging tools could mean for the future of cancer screening.
Ruth Etzioni, PhD is a biostatistician specializing in cancer screening and early detection with a focus on prostate and breast cancer. She develops methods to evaluate diagnostic tests, builds models to understand how screening affects cancer incidence and mortality, and studies the costs, benefits, and potential overdiagnosis associated with screening. She also evaluates emerging cancer biomarkers, tracks patterns in cancer care, and leads the biostatistics core for the National Cancer Institute–funded Northwest Prostate Cancer SPORE. Throughout her work, she is committed to reducing health disparities and improving outcomes.
