Airlift Northwest Airlift Northwest is the region’s premier air critical care transport service.

We believe all people deserve high-quality critical care, no matter where they are. When a housefire in Alaska claimed the lives of three children before they could reach the right type of care, a determined UW physician had a world-changing idea: If patients are losing their lives because they can't access proper care in time, why not fly the proper care to the patients? Thus, Airlift Northwest, the region's first flying Intensive Care Unit, was born here at UW Medicine. Years later, it still defines how care is delivered in the air and keeps the region within a short flight of the health care they need. Staffed with the highest level of critical care nurses and medical professionals in the country, teams are ready to handle everything from Advanced Cardiac Life Support to neonatal resuscitation, all while flying patients to the most advanced specialty care available. We are a revolutionary idea, resulting from a medical culture, driven to find innovative ways of delivering the highest standard of patient care, even if it takes flying there.

Working together to transport our most fragile patients.

Airlift Northwest provides critical care transport for patients of all ages. Sometimes, a specialty pediatric team is requested for transport. In these cases, ALNW works alongside the specialty team, providing the aircraft and aviation resources to safely get patients where they need to go.

Strong partnerships help ensure our region’s youngest patients have access to the specialized care and transport resources they need.

Airlift Northwest’s helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft each play an important role in getting critically ill and injured patients where they need to go. Different aircraft, different capabilities, one mission: providing critical care transport across our region.

Training together. Preparing together. Ready when it matters.

Airlift Northwest recently participated in a simulated training event alongside the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and K9 units and the Washington State Department of Corrections.

During the exercise, ALNW landed twice to transport simulated patients, giving participating teams the opportunity to practice coordinating patient care and air medical transport in a realistic training environment.

We’re proud to train alongside our public safety partners and strengthen the teamwork that helps us respond when every minute counts.
