Former competitive swimmer Peggy Haslach - Planning For Good writes about the harms of I-638, which will impact all girls who want to play school sports.

More than 150,000 school age girls do not have regular family doctors so they will have to be s*x inspected by a stranger at a clinic, or suffer the embarrassment and humiliation of being inspected during group physicals in front of others at a school gym.

I-001 will force schools to hand over sensitive information about child abuse victims to their parental abusers. It also forces school counselors and teachers to knowingly put LGBTQ+ students at risk of harm or homelessness.

Washington CAN-endorsed candidate Teresa Mosqueda spoke with KUOW about the impact of President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” on Washington residents and their access to healthcare.

As of October 1st, 11,000 Washington residents had lost Medicaid coverage, with another 215,000 expected to be impacted starting January 1st. These changes raise serious concerns about access to healthcare for working families and low-income communities across our state.

Healthcare is a human right. Washington CAN will continue working alongside our communities to protect access to affordable healthcare and ensure every Washingtonian can get the care they need.

Starting this month, 11,000 refugees, asylum seekers, and other lawfully present immigrants in Washington state lost their Medicaid coverage, including 4,000 immigrants in King County alone.

In January 2027, an additional 215,000 King County residents could see their Medicaid coverage affected after the implementation of new work requirements and more frequent eligibility checks. These changes are the result of cuts outlined in the Trump administration’s HR1, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda joined Soundside to discuss how the changes will affect county residents and the local health care system.
