Seattle Renews Its Unique Approach to Public Campaign Financing The democracy vouchers program hands residents $100 to donate to local candidates and it’s credited with broadening civic involvement. Voters on Tuesday extended it by 10 years.

Thanks to YOU, the Democracy Voucher Program will continue empowering everyday people, not just big donors, in our local elections for the next decade.

This victory belongs to all the volunteers, organizers, coalition partners, and supporters who poured their time, energy, and heart into this campaign. And most of all, it belongs to Seattle voters who showed up and voted YES to protect and strengthen our democracy.

Since its launch in 2017, the Democracy Voucher Program has:
✅ Expanded political participation among renters, young people, low-income residents, and communities of color
✅ Reduced the dominance of big money in local races
✅ Helped more diverse candidates compete and win
✅ Brought thousands of first-time donors into the process, creating a more representative democracy
