🎀 Help Us Turn the District Office Pink This October! 🎀

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re inviting our community to help us create a wall of hope, support, and remembrance at the Sun ’n Lake District Office. 💗

For a $5 donation, you’ll receive a pink ribbon to personalize in honor or memory of someone affected by breast cancer, celebrate a survivor, or share an encouraging message. Your ribbon will then be proudly displayed in the District Office throughout October.

All donations will benefit the AdventHealth Breast Cancer Foundation and Blush & Co Wig Boutique.

Together, we can turn the District Office pink—one ribbon at a time. 🎀

Prescribed Burn Notice – Sun ’n Lake Preserve

If you're planning to visit the Sun ’n Lake Preserve this week, please be aware that portions of the Preserve will be temporarily closed while a prescribed burn is conducted.

Highlands County Natural Resources staff and its contractor, Florida Land & Fire, will conduct a prescribed burn on Thursday morning, Oct. 15.

What to expect:
• Approximately 115 acres of scrubby and mesic flatwoods will be burned in Gate 3 and Gate 4.
• Both Gates 3 and 4 will be closed until crews complete mop-up operations and the burn area is safe to reopen.
• The closures are expected to be lifted by Saturday, Oct. 17.

You may also notice smoke in the area during and shortly after the burn.

Prescribed burns are one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires while maintaining the health of our natural areas. They also help improve wildlife habitat, support native vegetation and manage invasive plants.

Thank you for your patience as crews complete this important land management work.
