🔥 October is National Fire Prevention Month! 🚒

Stop by the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center throughout the month to view a special lobby display featuring historical items from the Secaucus Fire Department.

The display was created by Kim Schoenrock, daughter of the late Chief George Schoenrock of Rescue 1, and offers a look back at the history and legacy of our department and the members who have served our community.

Thank you to Kim and the Secaucus Public Library for helping preserve and share the history of the Secaucus Fire Department!

The Secaucus Fire Department is proud to officially be recognized as a Sensory Supportive® Certified Department! 🚒

Last night, our members participated in specialized training presented by the Baker Street Cares Foundation, focused on providing first responders with practical tools and strategies when assisting individuals with sensory, communication, or behavioral needs.

A special thank you to Katelyn Levy and Brendan Guarino for presenting an informative and engaging program and sharing their expertise with our members.

We were also fortunate to have Abigail Gonzalez, Town of Secaucus Special Populations Advocate, on hand for the training. Bringing together our first responders, clinical professionals, and community advocates helps us better understand and serve the individual needs of our residents.

We are proud to continue learning, growing, and strengthening the way we serve every member of our community.

The Secaucus Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the Secaucus Police Department and the family, friends, and colleagues of Lieutenant Thomas “TJ” Malanka Jr., Badge #125.

Lieutenant Malanka dedicated more than two decades of service to the Secaucus community and shared a strong relationship with the members of the Secaucus Fire Department throughout his many years of service.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, mother, father, Retired Captain Thomas Malanka Sr., and all those who knew and served alongside him.

During this incredibly difficult time, we stand with and are thinking of our family in blue at the Secaucus Police Department.

Rest in peace, TJ. Thank you for your friendship and dedicated service to the Town of Secaucus. 💙🖤

The Secaucus Fire Department proudly congratulates Ex-Chief George H. Heflich Sr. on receiving the Firefighter of the Year Award from the Secaucus Knights of Columbus on August 16.

This honor was beyond overdue and could not have gone to a more deserving individual. Making the day even more special, the entire presentation was a surprise — Chief Heflich had no idea he was being honored.

Chief Heflich has officially been a firefighter for an extraordinary 66 years! During his decades of service, he has held numerous positions, including Captain, Chief of Department, Town Fire Official, and President of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.

While 66 years of service would be an incredible legacy on its own, Chief Heflich isn’t finished yet. At nearly 89 years old, he can still regularly be found driving and pumping Engine 4, answering calls and serving alongside generations of Secaucus firefighters who have followed in his footsteps.

His service to others also extends beyond the firehouse. Throughout his lifetime, Chief Heflich has donated more than 25 gallons of blood.

Chief Heflich will celebrate his 89th birthday on September 16.

Pictured with Chief Heflich are his son, George Heflich Jr., and his twin brother, John Heflich.

Congratulations, Chief Heflich. After 66 years of answering the call, leading from the front, and serving others, this recognition was beyond overdue.

Thank you for everything you have done — and continue to do — for the Secaucus Fire Department and the community we serve. 🚒🏆

💧🚒 Keeping Secaucus Firefighters Hydrated!

The Secaucus Fire Department is proud to be a recipient of the 2026 DripDrop Hydration Giveback Campaign!

A huge thank you to DripDrop and National Volunteer Fire Council for providing our firefighters with DripDrop electrolyte drink mix.

Between summer heat, long-duration incidents, and training in full turnout gear, proper hydration plays an important role in keeping our members healthy, safe, and ready to serve our community. 🔥💪

We’re grateful to DripDrop and the National Volunteer Fire Council for continuing to support volunteer firefighters here in Secaucus and across the country! 💧🇺🇸

🚨 BIG NEWS! 🚒🔥

Another major milestone for the Secaucus Fire Department!

Today, the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety officially designated Rescue Co. #1 / Engine Co. #2, Chicora Park Engine Co. #3, and Tower Co. #2 as Tier 2 Academy Facilities! 👏

🎉 These companies now join Washington Hook & Ladder Co. #1 and Engine Co. #1, which earned this distinction in the late 1990s. With today’s announcement, all FIVE Secaucus Fire Department firehouses are now recognized as Tier 2 Academy Facilities! 🏆

📚 What does this mean?
A Tier 2 Academy Facility is a firehouse that has been inspected and approved by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety to host approved firefighter training programs. This designation expands local training opportunities, reduces travel for firefighters attending classes, and strengthens our department’s commitment to professional training, operational readiness, and serving the residents of Secaucus.

❤️ This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and pride of our members, while continuing to invest in the future of the Secaucus Fire Department.

👏 Special thanks to Lieutenants Donald & Raymond Cieciuch for coordinating this process, and to Chief Lawrence Marciano and Battalion Chief Jason Leppin for their leadership and support in preparing each facility for inspection.

Congratulations to everyone involved! 🚒
