Dear SPS School Community,

I am writing to inform you of ongoing police activity in the vicinity of 1300–1400 Paterson Plank Road. There is a heavy police presence and a number of streets are closed. THERE IS NO DANGER TO ANY OF THE SCHOOLS.

However, if this continues, it will affect school dismissal, most notably by causing delays in bus transportation and significant traffic issues. Huber Street School is the school that will likely experience the most disruption due to proximity to the police activity.

I have been in contact with Chief Miller throughout the day to coordinate with the Secaucus Police Department. He indicated that additional officers will be available in the vicinity to assist students and parents in walking home safely and with directing traffic.

Please allow extra time for travel to pickup this afternoon and follow any directions provided by police officers. We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates regarding any changes to dismissal or transportation. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together to support a safe dismissal for our students today.

10th Annual Walk-a-Thon for Mental Health Awareness!

Join the SHS S.A.I.L. and SMS S.G.O. on Tuesday, 10/13, from 3:30–5:00 PM (rain date: Wednesday, 10/14). Meet outside the PAC. A $10 donation is requested, and all proceeds benefit the J-Shine Fund ☀️

The Essex Regional Educational Services Commission (ERESC) Education of Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program provides an online resource where children, youth, and families can find free or reduced-cost services, including food, housing, financial assistance, health care, and more.

In an effort to support continued excellence in teaching and learning, the Board of Education approved a revision to the 2026–2027 school calendar that provides additional professional development opportunities for our teachers.

These dedicated training days will allow staff to strengthen instructional practices, collaborate with colleagues, and continue learning about the latest educational strategies to better meet the needs of all students.

Investing in our educators is an investment in the success of every child in Secaucus Public Schools.
