📚 BOOKS THAT ARE MEANT TO BE TREASURED
Some books entertain us. Others stay with us long after we turn the final page. Ukrainian literature offers stories like these—rich in ideas, unforgettable characters, and insights into the human experience.
✨ The City — Valerian Pidmohylnyi
A young man arrives in Kyiv determined to make his mark. This modern Ukrainian classic explores ambition, identity, social mobility, and the price of success.
✨ Forgottenness — Tanja Maljartschuk
A thought-provoking novel that connects a contemporary Ukrainian journalist’s search for identity with the story of a forgotten historical figure. A moving reflection on memory, history, and what happens when people and their stories disappear from public consciousness.
✨ Felix Austria — Sofia Andrukhovych
Set in early twentieth-century Galicia, this atmospheric novel explores an intense relationship between two women, revealing the complicated ties between love, loyalty, dependence, and freedom.
✨ Cassandra — Lesya Ukrainka
In this powerful dramatic poem, the ancient Trojan prophetess Cassandra struggles to make others hear the truth she sees. A timeless exploration of truth, responsibility, and the loneliness of being unheard.
These four works offer different ways to discover Ukraine’s rich literary tradition—from modern classics to imaginative retellings of ancient stories.
đź“– Ready to discover your next literary treasure? All four titles can be ordered through the BCCLS online catalog.
