BETTER, NOT MORE. Growth in Action!

During our first Instructional Playbook cycle (September 4–October 16), 43 educators demonstrated their commitment to improving instructional practice!

👏 26 met their instructional goals!

Not every goal is reached in one cycle, but every intentional step forward matters.

Doing the right work. Together.

PLACING STUDENTS AT THE 💛 OF PRACTICE

Learning is more than checking a box! During a recent conversation about CBE, students in Dual Credit Music Appreciation shared how their focus has shifted from simply completing assignments to truly understanding what they're learning.

That same mindset is carrying into band, where students are more engaged, taking ownership, and striving for growth!

👏 Shoutout to Mr. Fischer for helping students see that learning isn't about completion. It's about growth!

🖤💛 Nurturing a professional community happens through our actions and attitudes!

Mr. Ballance is putting that into practice by getting out into the building and working directly with teachers. His name has come up in conversations with staff as someone they’ve consulted, collaborated with, and worked alongside to solve problems as a team.

Listening, showing up, and supporting one another. That’s how we build a stronger Smith-Cotton! 🐯

🌟 Embracing Exceptional Teaching in action! 🌟

One of our teachers has been doing some really intentional work around AP instruction: aligning learning to proficiency scales, collecting evidence along the way, and using that evidence to make decisions about what students needed next. 📊

The exciting part isn’t just the end result. It’s the process: being willing to look closely at student learning, adjust instruction, and keep refining the work based on what the evidence shows.

That kind of intentional, reflective practice is exactly what Embracing Exceptional Teaching is all about. 💛🖤

💛 Placing Students at the Heart of Practice means paying attention to what students are already experiencing and building from there.

One of our teachers knew what students were reading in another course and intentionally connected her own content to that shared experience.

By stepping into something students already knew, she made the learning more relevant, connected, and meaningful. That’s student-centered practice in action. 🖤💛
