Sedona Fire An unprecedented look into SFD, keeping you safe in one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Sedona Fire dates back before 1950 when the emergency response was completely volunteer. Today we have five stations and 72 operational employees handling medical response, fire suppression, wildland-urban interface, and both swift water and high angle rope rescue. Our district covers nearly 200 square miles and recreationists manage to climb, bike, walk and hike pretty much anywhere the eye can see. On this page, you will see station life, crews training, dynamic calls, safety updates, helpful tips and hints about our area, and dedicated, passionate people who love what they do. Welcome to the family and thank you for joining us on our journey!

Building a strong work culture starts with open communication, shared values, and a commitment to growing together.

Recently, SFD leadership joined our newest firefighters for a culture walk, discussing the values that shape Sedona Fire District and opportunities for continued personal and professional growth.

The conversation also focused on expectations, professional standards, and the responsibilities we have to ourselves, our fellow employees, and the citizens we serve.

Fire Prevention Week

This year’s focus is on lithium-ion battery safety and the everyday devices we charge at home.

From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, safe charging habits can help reduce fire risk.

Use the correct charger, charge on a hard surface, keep batteries away from flammable materials, and stop using any battery that becomes unusually hot, swollen, damaged, or gives off an odor.

Charge safely. Stay aware. Help prevent fires before they start.

October is Fire Prevention Month

Sedona firefighters are always ready to respond when an emergency happens, but prevention is one of the best ways to help keep our community safe.

Fire Prevention Month is a reminder to take a few simple steps at home:

• Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
• Review your home escape plan
• Check for common fire hazards
• Make sure everyone in your household knows how to get out safely

A little preparation now can make a big difference in an emergency.

At Sedona Fire, we have some amazing individuals that truly exemplify what it means to be a firefighter.

We would like to highlight one such person: Matt Fischer.

Matt has been a firefighter, and now Engineer, with Sedona for over 23 years. Notably, he's helped train new firefighters and contribute to helping us grow for decades with his twin brother, Ryan, who is also an Engineer with us.

He was recently named the volunteer Firefighter of the Year for 2026 at Camp Courage with the The Arizona Burn Foundation, an organization that supports burn survivors and their families from the time of a survivor’s injury through the rest of their life.

If you see Matt driving a big red fire truck around, please give him a big wave! 👋
