⚾️Join us October 7th at 6 PM in the City Council Chambers as we discuss relocating our youth baseball fields out of the flood-prone area at Riverfront Park and into the open space at Janicki Playfields.

The open space at Janicki Playfields presents a viable opportunity to provide our kids with reliable fields while also allowing for improved parking, restrooms, concessions, and the potential to host tournaments that bring families and visitors into our community and support local businesses.

NSRA remains part of our vision for the future and our long-term goal for growing youth baseball and softball. In the meantime, we have an opportunity to address a need that has been facing our youth programs for years.

We can continue working toward the bigger vision while moving forward for our kids today.

🔨Our Union Cemetery maintenance building is getting some much-needed siding repairs, thanks to the hard work of our Parks and Facilities crew.

Did you know Union Cemetery was established by Charles J. Wicker, who began selling plots in 1890 on land he homesteaded east of what would become Sedro-Woolley? The first recorded burial was his 11-year-old nephew, Eddie McFadden, in 1887. Wicker formally dedicated the cemetery in 1895, naming it Union Cemetery in anticipation of the coming union of Sedro and Woolley. The Wicker family owned the cemetery until selling it to the City in 1971. In 1993, the neighboring IOOF cemetery was also sold to the City, finally bringing the two burial grounds together and living up to the spirit of the Union Cemetery name.

A big thank you to our Parks and Facilities crew, as well as our Cemetery crew, for the work they do to care for and maintain a place that holds so much of our community’s history.
