Texas is strong in the manufacturing industry, but how do we ensure it stays competitive as technology continues to evolve?

In this opinion article, SEDC Executive Director Alora Wachholz and Carolyn Lee, President of the Manufacturing Institute, explore why preparing workers to use artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies will be critical to Texas’s industrial future.

Technology is changing how manufacturers operate, but people will remain at the center of that progress. Investing in training and developing the skills workers need to adapt will be essential to sustaining Texas’s manufacturing growth.

To assist with this training, the Manufacturing Institute launched its new AI Skills Initiative. “AI Fundamentals for Manufacturing,” which will provide learners a baseline understanding of AI, its applications across the industry, and insight into its advantages for safety, productivity, and efficiency.

Happy Manufacturing Month, Seguin!

Mayor Donna Dodgen officially proclaimed October as Manufacturing Month in the City of Seguin today!

One in three jobs in Seguin is a manufacturing job, and we’re proud to recognize the people and companies that make this industry such an important part of our community.

A special thank you to Ranch Hand, Schaeffler, Caterpillar, Central States Manufacturing and Cadrex Manufacturing Solutions for joining us for today’s proclamation. We were also glad to have Seguin ISD’s Career and Technical Education Department and the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce there alongside the Seguin Economic Development Corporation to help champion Manufacturing Month.

There’s a lot to be proud of when it comes to manufacturing in Seguin — from the companies that call our community home to the people who bring their skills and expertise to work every day.

Here’s to the people who make Seguin!
