Guadalupe County CERT The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an emergency preparedness program. What is CERT? WHY JOIN Guadalupe County CERT?

Our team also supports the deployment of a AKC Pet Disaster Response trailer to support animals in need during disaster. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an emergency preparedness program supported by the Department of Homeland Security. FEMA began promoting nationwide the use of CERT concept in 1994 based on a model created and implemented by the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1985. Guadalupe County CERT members receive special training to enhance their ability to support the Guadalupe County Office of Emergency Management, city first responders and all other city departments during emergency/disaster events. Guadalupe County CERT is seeking additional team members to assist when the next flood, fire or other emergency event occurs in Guadalupe County. Members range from high school students to retirees - and everyone brings something to the table. Guadalupe County CERT provides an excellent opportunity for the citizens of our community to play an important role in helping safeguard, prepare for and respond to major emergencies and disasters. If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the City’s professional responders, Guadalupe County CERT members can be called upon to assist others by applying their training. Their skills can assist in saving property and lives until additional help arrives and then they can continue to assist the professionals in a variety of ways. In a disaster people want to help but many are turned away because of the time and resources it takes to train or to determine what skills a volunteer has to offer. Guadalupe County CERT is an avenue for people to be involved in the process and help protect the community, as well as their own family members. How do you join Guadalupe County CERT? A community that is better prepared will recover faster and the long term effects are not as devastating. Become a Guadalupe County CERT member today, training is FREE! Get Involved: Help Us Build a Stronger, More Prepared Guadalupe County

Emergencies and disasters can happen at any time, and when they do, it takes an entire community working together to recover.

Our Pet Disaster Relief Trailer is just one example of what can happen when community members, organizations, businesses, and volunteers get involved. This resource allows us to better care for pets and help families stay together during difficult times—but there is always more we can do.

That’s where we need your help.

We are looking for new members to join our Animal Disaster Response Team. Whether you have experience with animals, emergency response, or simply have a heart for helping your community, there is a place for you.

Guadalupe County is stronger when we work together. Your involvement could help us be better prepared for the next disaster and make a real difference for families—both two-legged and four-legged—when they need us most.

Don’t wait for a disaster to ask, “What can I do?” Get involved now and help us build a stronger, safer, and more prepared community.
