In the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias, Alabama Extension is working with local farm organizations and state and federal government agencies to document agricultural damage to crops, livestock, buildings, and equipment.

Alabama farmers are encouraged to work with their county Extension office to share time- and date-stamped pictures and videos of this damage. Farmers can also submit this documentation online at www.aces.edu/go/Isaias. The deadline to submit videos and pictures is Friday, October 16 at 5 p.m.

This information will be used to create a public report that documents the effects of Hurricane Isaias on Alabama agriculture. No personal or identifying information of farmers will be included in the report.

Farmers, if you've experienced damage or losses from Hurricane Helene, take the following steps to ensure proper documentation and assistance:

Before starting any cleanup, take time-stamped photos of all damages and losses.

Contact your Farm Service Agency (FSA) to report losses. This helps in preparing a Loss Assessment Report, crucial for designating an agricultural disaster area.

Report losses within 72 hours of discovery, and provide a signed written notice within 15 days. This must be done before cleanup starts to ensure proper documentation.

If you're enrolled in the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) or other disaster programs, contact your local FSA office for a waiver before beginning any cleanup. For more information, visit https://www.aces.edu/blog/topics/farm-management/agricultural-disaster-assistance-programs/.
