A message from Chief Alcaraz and the Selma Police Department:
I want to acknowledge the current anxiety and concern surrounding immigration enforcement in our community. I hear you, and I understand the fear this atmosphere creates.

Under the California Values Act (Senate Bill 54), state and local law enforcement agencies are restricted from using personnel and resources for federal immigration enforcement purposes, with limited exceptions established by law.

I want to be entirely clear about our role: as your police chief, I assure you that our department does not cooperate or participate with federal agencies regarding immigration enforcement. The Selma Police Department is not notified in advance of federal immigration enforcement operations conducted within its jurisdiction.

Our single priority is the safety and trust of everyone living in this city, regardless of status.

A message from Selma Unified School District regarding this morning's ALMS lockdown:

Dear Families,
At approximately 10:00 a.m. today, ALMS initiated a precautionary lockdown after individuals were observed on campus who could not immediately be identified.

Our School Resource Officer investigated the situation and determined that the individuals were support staff working with our band program. Once they were identified and it was confirmed there was no threat to students or staff, the lockdown was lifted and the school resumed normal operations.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation during today’s precautionary response. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we will continue to respond promptly whenever a potential safety concern is reported.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

As we recognize Su***de Prevention Month this September, our Mental Health Team and School Resource Officers recently presented at the Fresno County Su***de Prevention and Awareness Collaborative, sharing the work Selma Unified is doing to support student safety, mental health, and well-being.

Our team highlighted the strong collaboration between Selma Unified, the Selma Police Department, Fresno County Behavioral Health, and our community partners, including our approach to su***de prevention, intervention, and student support.

Our therapy dog program was also a highlight of the presentation, and the positive impact our therapy dogs have had on students, staff, and the greater Selma community.

We’re proud of our Mental Health Team, SROs, and community partners for working together to create safe, supportive, and responsive environments for our students. 🩵💜

PRESS RELEASE 09/16/2026-Selma Police Department Seeks Additional Victims in Sexual Assault Investigation
The Selma Police Department arrested Selma resident Pal Singh on September 8, 2026, as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

The Selma Police Department became aware of Singh after receiving information from clients who reported being sexually assaulted by Singh. Investigators learned Singh was reportedly operating an unlicensed chiropractic practice from his residence.

Singh is also reported to be known as a "healer" within the Sikh community and had an established clientele, including individuals who traveled from throughout California to receive his services.

The Selma Police Department is continuing its investigation and is seeking to identify additional individuals who may have had contact with Singh through his practice. If you or someone you know may have been a victim of Singh, or may have information regarding his activities, please contact the Selma Police Department.

This investigation remains ongoing. Singh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
