🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER 🚌
The Selmer Police Department would like to remind motorists of the laws regarding approaching a stopped school bus.
When a school bus is stopped with its red warning lights activated and/or its STOP sign extended, motorists are required to stop as required by Tennessee law.
Two-Lane Roadways
On a two-lane roadway, traffic traveling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus displaying its red warning lights and/or STOP sign.
Four-Lane Roadways Without a Physical Divider
On a four-lane roadway without a physical divider, such as a grassy median or concrete barrier, traffic traveling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus displaying its red warning lights.
Four-Lane Roadways With a Physical Divider
On a roadway divided by a physical barrier, such as a grassy median or concrete barrier, vehicles traveling in the opposite direction of the school bus may proceed. However, vehicles traveling in the same direction and approaching from behind the school bus must stop while the bus is displaying its red warning lights and/or STOP sign.
🚨 Please remember: A school bus stop is not an inconvenience—it is a safety zone for our children.
A few seconds of patience can prevent a tragedy.
As we begin another school year, we ask everyone to slow down, pay attention, and obey school bus traffic laws.
Our children are counting on all of us to get them to and from school safely.
Thank you for helping us keep them safe.
