INTERAGENCY COOPERATION: WORKING TOGETHER FOR OUR COMMUNITY

On Thursday, October 15, at approximately 1400 hours, McNairy County Fire Department Station 43 was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 64 West and Bud Long Road. As additional information was received regarding the incident, Station 1 was dispatched to provide mutual aid.

Upon arrival, MCFD personnel found that the Tennessee Highway Patrol and McNairy County Sheriff’s Office had already established a secure work area by closing the eastbound lanes of Highway 64. The Tennessee Department of Transportation was subsequently requested to assist with traffic control and provide additional resources to safely manage the roadway.

MCFD personnel worked efficiently alongside our law enforcement and EMS partners to safely extricate the involved driver and provide a professional handoff to Baptist Ambulance for continued medical care. Additional personnel on scene evaluated the other individuals involved, while roadway cleanup and vehicle recovery were coordinated with additional resources.

While the details of any single incident may vary, the importance of working together never changes.

Responses such as this demonstrate what can be accomplished when fire, law enforcement, EMS, transportation personnel, and private-sector partners work together toward one common goal: protecting our community and providing the best possible service to those who need us.

We are proud of the professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by everyone involved. It is through strong partnerships, mutual aid, training, and a shared commitment to service that we continue to make McNairy County a safer place for everyone.

One call. One team. One mission.

McNairy County Fire Department appreciates all of our partner agencies who stand ready to answer the call alongside us.

🚒RED SUNDAY: Honoring our firefighters, strengthening our community 🚒

On Sunday, October 11, 2026, the McNairy County Fire Department had the special privilege of joining Pastor David Paseur, his wife Lydia, and the congregation of Full Gospel Fellowship Church for their "Red Sunday" service in honor of our firefighters during Fire Prevention Week. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to be welcomed into a place of worship and fellowship where our firefighters were recognized, encouraged, and reminded of the tremendous support our community continues to provide.

During the service, Fire Chief Willie H. Tapp shared a brief message with the congregation about the history of the McNairy County Fire Department, the services we provide, and our ongoing commitment to fire prevention, public education, and protecting the lives and property of our citizens. Personnel from Station 43 also brought an engine for the children to explore, giving our youngest community members an opportunity to learn more about the equipment firefighters use and the important work we do. One of the most meaningful moments of the service was a message drawing a connection between a firefighter's protective gear and the full armor of God, reminding us of the importance of being prepared, standing firm in our responsibilities, and serving others with courage and purpose.

Following the service, the church graciously provided light refreshments and cake, allowing everyone to enjoy a time of fellowship. These moments may seem small to some, but they mean so much to the men and women who dedicate their time to serving others. Knowing that our firefighters are appreciated, supported, and lifted up in prayer is a blessing that we do not take for granted.

As Fire Prevention Week has come to a close, we encourage every household to remember these important fire safety practices:

-Have working smoke alarms in your home.
-Know two ways out of every room, if possible.
-Develop and practice a family fire escape plan.
-Choose a designated outdoor meeting place.

It is our privilege to serve McNairy County, and may we never forget that behind every call, every training exercise, and every public education event is a shared goal: keeping our families, neighbors, and communities safe.

🚒 MORE THAN FIGHTING FIRE — SERVING OUR COMMUNITY

The McNairy County Fire Department has had a busy few days, and our personnel have once again demonstrated that being a firefighter is about far more than fighting fires.

Over the past several days, our crews have responded to motor vehicle accidents, vehicle fires, brush fires, and an automatic-aid structure fire. In addition to emergency responses, our personnel have covered dozens of medical calls, participated in training opportunities, and had the privilege of spending time in our community through public education.

Every one of these responsibilities plays an important role in keeping McNairy County safe. Emergency response is only one part of what we do. Training prepares us for the unexpected. Public education helps prevent emergencies before they happen. Community involvement builds relationships and trust. And answering the call—regardless of what that call may be—is at the heart of the fire service.

Our personnel dedicate their time, skills, and energy to serving others, often behind the scenes and without recognition. We are proud of the men and women who continue to step up, train hard, serve their communities, and answer the call whenever they are needed.

Being a firefighter is more than fighting fire. It is about being there for your community—when they need you most and when they simply need someone willing to help.

The McNairy County Fire Department is proud to serve McNairy County, Tennessee.

Always Ready. Always Serving.

🍂 FALL IS HERE — IS YOUR HOME READY? 🍂

As we officially enter October and cooler temperatures arrive, now is the perfect time to make sure your home is ready for the heating season.

As temperatures drop, many households begin using gas appliances, fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, space heaters, and other supplemental heating sources. While these provide much-needed warmth, they can also increase the risk of home fires and carbon monoxide exposure when equipment is improperly maintained, used incorrectly, or malfunctioning.

🔥 Smoke alarms provide early warning of a fire.
☠️ Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms warn you of a colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly gas.

Properly installed, working alarms throughout your home are one of the simplest—and most important—steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.

🚨 WE CAN HELP!

The McNairy County Fire Department currently has more than 100 smoke alarms and 30 carbon monoxide alarms available to help protect homes throughout our community.

And getting one is easier than ever!

Simply visit www.mcnairycountyfire.com, scroll to the middle of the page, and click “Request a Smoke Alarm.”

📅 Complete the request form
⏰ Select a date and time that works for you
🚒 Our personnel will come to your home
🏠 We will install the alarms and help ensure they are properly placed

Most installations take only 10–15 minutes.

Best of all, there is no cost to you.

Don't wait until the first cold night of the season to find out whether your alarms are working—or whether you have enough of them.

It’s free. It’s convenient. It takes only a few minutes. And it could save your life.

🧯 Prepare your home. Protect your family. Make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms before you need them.

🔥 PLEASE HELP US PREVENT OUTDOOR FIRES! 🔥

With current dry conditions, the McNairy County Fire Department strongly encourages residents to avoid outdoor burning whenever possible.

Right now, conditions are drying grass, leaves, brush, and other vegetation quickly. What may seem like a small, controlled fire can quickly become difficult to manage when conditions are dry—especially with wind or changing weather.

🚫 The dangers of outdoor burning currently outweigh the benefits.

A fire that gets out of control can threaten:
🏠 Homes and other structures
🌲 Woodlands and fields
🚜 Agricultural property and equipment
🛣️ Roadways and visibility
👨‍🚒 Firefighters and responding emergency personnel

Even if you have burned the same area safely in the past, conditions can change from one day to the next.

Our firefighters are ready to respond when our citizens need us, but the best fire is the one we never have to respond to. If you can postpone outdoor burning, please do so until conditions become safer.

🙏 Help us protect our community, our property, and our firefighters.

Please don't burn today—wait for safer conditions.

🚒 A Busy Day of Service Across McNairy County

Saturday, September 19, proved to be another busy day for the men and women of the McNairy County Fire Department, with multiple calls for service requiring the response and coordination of several agencies and stations.

At approximately 1430 hours, McNairy County Fire Department Station 22 was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire on Airport Road. Due to conflicting initial information and an event taking place simultaneously at the Robert Sibley Airport, Station 1 was dispatched for mutual aid to ensure adequate resources were available.

Upon arrival, first-arriving personnel reported a van fully involved approximately 200 yards from the airport entrance. Engine 22 and Engine 1 immediately went to work, attacking the fire and quickly extinguishing both the vehicle and the fire that had extended into the roadside area. Their rapid response and coordinated efforts prevented further spread.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle and declined treatment from EMS and personnel on scene.

Immediately following the vehicle fire response, Stations 22 and 1 were dispatched to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the 4800 block of Highway 64 East. The operator sustained minimal injuries and declined transportation by EMS.

Earlier that same morning, Station 33 responded to a reported brush fire on Vernie Kirk Road. Due to the nature and extent of the fire, Station 42 and Brush 1, along with the Tennessee Division of Forestry was requested to assist with suppression efforts.

While each incident presented its own challenges, the common thread throughout the day was coordination, preparedness, and a willingness to serve. From fire suppression to motor vehicle incidents and mutual-aid operations, these calls demonstrate the importance of having trained personnel and adequate resources available when our citizens need them.

The McNairy County Fire Department is proud of the dedication demonstrated by our volunteers and their continued willingness to answer the call—regardless of the time, circumstances, or number of calls.

To our firefighters: thank you for your continued service to the citizens of McNairy County. Your commitment to this community does not go unnoticed.

🚒 Ready to Respond. Proud to Serve.

🚒 MCNAIRY COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT — INCIDENT RESPONSE

On Friday, September 18, at approximately 0900 hours, McNairy County Fire Department Station 23 was dispatched to the Pleasant Site community for a reported equipment fire involving a skid steer. Dispatch information indicated that no injuries had been reported.

MCFD Command responded to the scene, and Station 1 was subsequently dispatched for mutual aid. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly went to work extinguishing the fire and containing the area surrounding a nearby burn pile, all the while remaining aware of the fuel and hydraulic components of the equipment.

According to the operator, the skid steer experienced a mechanical malfunction, causing the machine to strike a tree and subsequently enter a low-power mode, leaving it unable to operate. Fortunately, the front bucket was down, allowing the operator to safely exit the machine before it became fully engulfed.

Incidents such as this serve as another reminder of the importance of remaining alert around operating equipment and having an emergency plan in place should a mechanical failure or fire occur. The operator's quick thinking and experience allowed him to safely exit an extremely dangerous situation.

We are thankful that no injuries were reported and proud of the quick response and coordination of our personnel and stations.

McNairy County Fire Department stands ready to answer the call.

🚒 Respond. Protect. Serve.
