A hard hit isn’t always something you can just “shake off.” 🏈

A concussion can happen after a blow or jolt to the head or body, and symptoms may not always be obvious right away. After a hard hit, watch for warning signs.

If a concussion is suspected, take the athlete out of play and have them evaluated. When symptoms are severe or an emergency is suspected, call 911.

Don’t just shake it off. Take the hit seriously.

September is National Preparedness Month, a reminder that being ready before an emergency can make a difference when every second counts. 🚑

Take time this month to make sure your household knows the plan. Keep emergency contacts and medications accessible, build an emergency kit, establish a family communication plan, and make sure everyone knows when to call 911.

Preparation doesn’t have to be complicated. It starts with a plan.

When you see an ambulance, what you do next matters. 🚑

If an emergency vehicle is approaching with its lights or siren activated, stay alert, safely yield, and give it the space needed to get through.

And if you approach an emergency vehicle stopped on the roadside with its lights activated, Alabama’s Move Over Act applies. Move over one lane when it’s safe to do so. If you can’t safely change lanes, slow down to at least 15 mph below the posted speed limit.

Those flashing lights mean someone is working just feet away from moving traffic. Giving first responders room helps protect the crews caring for others, and helps everyone get home safely.

Their courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

⚠️ September is Falls Prevention Month, a reminder that falls can happen in seconds, but a few simple changes around the home can help reduce the risk.

For older adults and their caregivers, take a few minutes to check the spaces used every day.

A safer home starts with noticing the little things before they become a hazard.

🚑 Training. Excellence. Recognition. 🏆

It’s been a busy week at Mobile County EMS! Our crews have spent time sharpening their skills during training days, continuing the education and hands-on practice it takes to provide exceptional care to the citizens and visitors of Mobile County.

We also had the opportunity to recognize several of our team members with Clinical Excellence Awards for outstanding clinical performance on calls. 👏

These awards recognize providers who demonstrate exceptional patient care, strong clinical decision-making, teamwork, and a commitment to going above and beyond when it matters most.

We’re proud of our crews for continuing to learn, grow, and hold themselves to a high standard of care. Congratulations to our Clinical Excellence Award recipients — well deserved! 🏆🚑💙
