Did you know a rain barrel can do more than collect water?

It can help reduce runoff, supplement landscape irrigation and make better use of rainfall that would otherwise be lost.

A key focus of Healthy Lawns Healthy Waters workshops is teaching Texans how to design and install residential rainwater harvesting systems and use them effectively. Participants also learn about irrigation methods that improve efficiency and reduce water waste.

Keep an eye out for workshops happening near you at Tx.ag/HLHWWorkshops

Cooking for a crowd or planning ahead? Double the recipe with confidence!

Doubling a recipe can be a great way to save time and prepare extra meals, but a few simple tips can help your results turn out just right. From using a larger pot and allowing proper oven airflow to checking food temperatures and labeling freezer meals, a little planning goes a long way!
-trust your basic math: most ingredients can be simple multiplied by 2. Be more conservative with seasonings and multiply by 1.5.

-rely on the thermometer instead of time: use a food thermometer to ensure the recipe is cooked to the proper temperature.

-upgrade to a larger pot: allow plenty of room for the extra ingredients.

-choose oven placement wisely: allow space between pans and th eoven walls to allow for adequate air flow.

-cool foods before freezing: allow foods to cool in the refrigerator before packaging for freezer storage.

- store and label: freeze foods in freezer safe containers and label with the name and packaging date.
