RIP Retired Seymour Officer Badge #311 Paul John Haluschak, Jr., age 72, beloved husband of Ruthann Oles Haluschak of Seymour, died peacefully on October 1, 2026 at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, following a brave three-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Derby on February 24, 1954, he was the son of the late Paul John Haluschak, Sr. and Salvatricia Culmo Haluschak. Mr. Haluschak was raised in Seymour, a 1973 graduate of Seymour High School and graduate of the Connecticut Police Academy. Immediately following his high school graduation, Paul began his lifelong journey of community service, as a supernumerary police officer for the town of Seymour. He then became an active-duty patrolman, serving the town of Seymour for over 30 years until the time of his retirement in June of 2017. Paul was a passionate volunteer firefighter with Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. 4 of Derby for more than 50 years, proudly serving as a past lieutenant. His dedication to the fire service extended beyond his own company, as he was also a social member of Webster Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 3 of Ansonia, Charters Hose Co. 4 of Ansonia, and Citizens Engine Co. 2 of Seymour. A founding member of the Southern Connecticut Antique Fire Apparatus Collectors (SCAFAC) and the Ansonia Fire Museum; Paul proudly owned and meticulously maintained six antique fire trucks. He was a familiar and enthusiastic participant in area parades and fire musters, rarely seen without his beloved Dalmatian, "Pudge," by his side. Paul was also a longtime member of the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps and the Connecticut Alumni Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. He will be fondly remembered for his unwavering love of animals, his passion for the fire service and, above all, his unselfish dedication to helping others in need. In addition to his beloved spouse of 20 years, he is survived by a sister, Linda Hayducky and her husband, John of Seymour; a sister-in-law, Jo-Ann Rogowski and her husband, Jim of New Milford; nephews, Justin Rogowski of Ellington, Jason Rogowski of Roxbury and John Hayducky of Seymour; as well as many cousins and brothers of the Police and Fire Departments.

Family and friends may call on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Organization, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777, www.michaeljfox.org, or to the Ansonia, Derby or Seymour Volunteer Fire Departments.

Last week, Officer Soares visited Willow Academy alongside fellow first responders as part of their Community Helpers Week!

Officer Soares had the opportunity to spend time with the students, talk about what police officers do in our community, and share why building positive relationships with our youngest community members is so important.

It was wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity, and all the great questions they had! Thank you to the staff and students at Willow Academy for inviting Officer Soares to be part of such a special week.

Reminder, tomorrow is the Seymour Pink 5K road race.

This morning, School Resource Officer Baldwin presented to Seymour Middle School students in grades 6, 7, and 8 on the important topic of cyberbullying.

Students learned about the impact of cyberbullying and the importance of thinking before posting, sharing, or responding. Officer Baldwin also discussed responsible, safe, and respectful behavior both online and in our everyday interactions with one another.

Students were also reminded to recognize harmful online behavior, report concerns, and speak up when someone may need help.

We appreciate Officer Baldwin taking the time to speak with students and reinforce these important lessons about internet safety, kindness, and respect.

🎃 What a great time at the Seymour Pumpkin Fest!

It was a pleasure getting out into the community, meeting residents, and spending time with so many families and community members. Despite the rain, it was great to see so many people come out and enjoy the festivities. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and helped make it a great day in Seymour!
