Story time attendees were treated to an unexpected sight. Is it raining? Is it a slobbering sea monster? Nope, just our intrepid window washers making sure the library's windows are squeaky clean.

On this day 100 years ago, A. A. Milne introduced readers to the characters in the Hundred Acre Wood with the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. 🍯🧸

We love to celebrate a classic like Winnie-the-Pooh that kids can enjoy from generation to generation.

In March, we discussed MLK's "Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community." In June, we discussed Toni Morrison's "Song of Solomon." Now, join us for our third and final Beloved Community Book Club of 2026, as we discuss "Take the Mic: Fictional Stories of Everyday Resistance."

This will be an intergenerational discussion for both teens and adults.

We will discuss the first half of the book on October 22 and the second half on November 5 — so, even if you can't make the first meeting, there is another discussion two weeks later. Any person who registers for the discussion can pick up a free copy of the book, purchased by the MLK Forward Together Committee, at Shaker Main Library while supplies last.

Register to attend at events.shakerlibrary.org.

Does your closet look like this?

Come to our Puzzle/Board Game Swap Cafe to exchange gently used puzzles and board games, each with all pieces intact. Connect with fellow puzzle/game-people, enjoy some lemonade or hot tea, and join in some activities. Bring something to swap and leave with a new challenge.

What an incredible article. 👏 👏 👏

The New York Times asked 50 librarians across the country what they wish Americans knew about the work we do.

Their answers were candid, challenging, powerful, and touching. If you read anything today, let this be it.

We asked dozens of them about America’s libraries — what they provide, what they need to survive. Here’s what they told us.

Three months ago, we announced we purchased new recycling bins with clearer, more helpful signage. ♻️

Now that the bins have been in place for three months, we conducted a waste audit (otherwise known as picking through the trash) to see if the bins are working out.

And Shaker? You're doing AMAZING. 👍😀👍

At Main Library – only 2% of the recycling was contaminated with trash. And at Bertram Woods? Only 1% of the recycling was trash.

A massive thank you to the Friends of the Shaker Library and Cuyahoga Recycles for giving us the tools to “recycle right!” We're excited about the impact these new bins have made in just a short amount of time!

In reference to Dolly Parton’s famous song, “9 to 5”, Governor DeWine has declared today Dolly Parton Day.

With that in mind, we're sharing "The Library That Dolly Built," a FREE documentary about the people who worked to make Dolly's dream for The Imagination Library a reality.

Here in Cuyahoga County, 62% of eligible children are enrolled in her program to receive a free book each month. What a legacy.

A feature-length documentary narrated by Danica McKellar that featu...
