🚌 It’s National School Bus Safety Week! This week, we’re reminding our community to take extra care around school buses and bus stops.

Here's how you can help keep students safe:
🛑 Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
⚠️ Slow down and watch for children near bus stops, schools and residential streets.
🚗 Never pass a stopped school bus when its stop arm is extended.
⌚ Stay alert and allow extra time for buses to make stops and pick up students.

Thank you for keeping our students safe on their way to and from school! ❤️🤍

More than 20 Shaker Heights High School students attended a recent Mental Health Summit at Cleveland Public Auditorium, taking part in small- and large-group sessions focused on mental health, wellness and connection ❣️

The Summit was created and led by Ariana Smith '09, Associate Director of Student Programs at The City Club of Cleveland. We’re proud to see Shaker alumni making an impact in our community and inspiring the next generation of Raiders!

A special thank you to SHHS School Counselor Cathy Charles and Vikki Long from our Athletic Department for supporting students throughout the day. Ms. Charles also led a session, “Mental Fitness: More Than Mindset…Breath, Movement, Nervous System,” sharing strategies to support student well-being.

We’re proud to provide meaningful enrichment opportunities for our students and grateful for the positive way they represent their families, school and community! ❤️🤍

Chef Jeremy Umansky of Larder Delicatessen & Bakery made one of his quarterly visits to Mr. Bishko's classes at SHMS, and he brought a table full of foods most had never tasted before! Students explored misos made from blood sausage, white bean and ham, and moustarda; and sampled koji-cured beef that had been drying for two years.

Armed with their sensory recording sheets, students broke down what they smelled, tasted, and felt, and learned how taste (what our tongues detect) and flavor (the full experience of taste, aroma, and texture together) work hand in hand.

We are so grateful to Chef Umansky for the time, generosity, and kindness he shares with our students!

Last week, our Grade 7 Design: Career Connections students welcomed guest speaker Jasmine Villanueva for an engaging two-day exploration of careers, strengths, and entrepreneurship! 🤩💯 Jasmine Villanueva is an entrepreneur, sales educator and founder of She Closed It First Academy who empowers people to build careers through authentic connection and helps young people discover their strengths and explore diverse career paths.

Through interactive games and activities, students connected their skills and interests to career possibilities, explored different ways people earn a living, and discovered that career paths don’t always follow a straight line. They put their entrepreneurial thinking into action with a Mini Shark Tank, where teams invented a business and pitched their ideas! 💡

Thank you, Jas, for encouraging our students to stay curious, recognize what they’re good at, and remember that there isn’t just one door to their future! ❤️🤍

After seven years away, Shaker Crew returns to the Head of the Charles this weekend! 🤩🛶 On Sunday morning, two Shaker boats will line up near Boston University and race three miles up the Charles River, under bridges lined with spectators!

Shaker Crew is one of three public high school varsity crew teams in Ohio. The Head of the Charles is the largest three-day regatta in the world, drawing 11,500 competitors and 325,000 spectators. Shaker Raiders raced here every fall from 2016 to 2019, and after seven years away, the tradition returns 💯

Good luck to our Raider Rowers this weekend! ❤️🤍
