Monday at the Brunswick Center at Waccamaw was all about letting loose, having fun, and showing off our singing skills! 😄🎵

We had staff and participants brave the microphone, share a few songs, and embrace their silly side. From the singing to the laughter, we had an absolute blast! ❤️

Sometimes, the best memories come from stepping outside your comfort zone, being a little silly, and enjoying the moment with friends. We’re so thankful for the fun and laughter that makes our center such a special place!

Who knows… maybe we have a few future superstars in our midst! 🌟🎤

Today, we’re celebrating Catherine Lee and the beautiful spirit of kindness and generosity she brings to the Brunswick Center at Leland! ❤️

Catherine recently received a beautiful thank-you basket filled with some of her favorite things from two lovely ladies at the center who wanted to show their appreciation for all she does for them throughout the week. 🎁

From helping them get their lunches to lending a hand with the little things and offering countless other acts of kindness, Catherine reminds us that it’s often the simplest gestures that make the biggest difference.

This thoughtful gift is a wonderful reminder that kindness is never wasted, generosity never goes unnoticed, and a caring heart makes a lasting impact.

Catherine, thank you for all you do and for the kindness you share so freely with others. You truly reflect the meaning of selflessness, compassion, and giving from the heart.

The little things you do mean more than you know! Today, we celebrate YOU! 🌷

It's starting to feel like fall & the Brunswick Center at Supply isn't missing a beat!

Last week, our Supply Center participants enjoyed a fun-filled day trip! The day kicked off at Biggers Market, where everyone shopped for some fresh farmer's market goodies and checked out some HUGE pumpkins! 🎃🍎

The next stop was Blueberry's Grill NC for a delicious bite to eat, where they saw the BIGGEST pancake stacks ever! 🥞

They decided to wrap up their day with a little shopping at HomeGoods!

Nothing beats a day filled with fall fun, good food, shopping, and even better company! 🧡🍁

💚 Celebrating 8 Years of Volunteer Service – Jim Everette! 💚

We'd like to recognize and thank Jim Everette for his incredible dedication to BSRI’s Meals on Wheels program! Jim began volunteering in 2018 and recently retired from volunteering in 2026, leaving behind eight years of kindness, compassion, and caring service to our community.

Jim volunteered at the Brunswick Center at Shallotte, serving under Nutrition Coordinator Taylor West. He delivered meals twice a week, serving two different routes and going above and beyond to make sure his clients were cared for.
For Jim, it was about so much more than delivering a meal. He truly cared about the people he served. If someone wasn’t on his delivery list, he wanted to know why and whether they were okay. His thoughtfulness and concern for his clients showed just how much they meant to him. He was always willing to do whatever he could to help and make a difference in their lives.

Jim, thank you for eight wonderful years of service, for the compassion you showed your clients, and for the heart you brought to Meals on Wheels. Your dedication has made a difference in the lives of so many, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have done for BSRI and the people we serve.

Enjoy your retirement, Jim! You will be missed! Please join us in thanking him & wishing him all the very best in this next chapter.👏

☕💗 Women's Coffee & Connection💗☕

The women of the Brunswick Center at Shallotte gathered this past week for our October Women’s Coffee & Connection group, sharing meaningful conversation while learning important tips for staying healthy and safe.

💊 Jennifer, RN, BSN, sparked an important discussion about medication safety, including the risks of keeping unused medications and how to dispose of them properly.

🩷 Rita brought attention to breast cancer awareness, reminding us that approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. She emphasized the importance of regular mammograms and early detection, which can make a significant difference.

A heartfelt thank you to Jennifer and Rita for sharing their knowledge and helping make this month’s gathering both meaningful and educational!

📅 Want to join us next month? Keep an eye on the Shallotte Senior Center calendar for details about our next Women’s Coffee & Connection gathering. We’d love to see you there!

Good morning, BSRI Community!

We have an ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITY we'd love to share with you all, if you'd take just a few minutes today to make your voice heard. 🗣️

If you have had a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer's, you likely understand the importance of early detection and the difference it can make. That is why we are inviting our community to take a few minutes to read this post and click the link below to send a message to Congress!

Just as with cancer and heart disease, treating Alzheimer's earlier leads to significantly better outcomes. Fortunately, new FDA-cleared blood tests can now identify the disease in its earliest stages, allowing patients to access new treatments at the point when they can be most effective. This is exactly what Americans want. More than 9 in 10 Americans say they would take a simple test for Alzheimer’s.

⭐Under current law, Medicare cannot cover any dementia screening test for people without symptoms — a legal barrier only Congress can fix. Unlike similar tests for many other diseases, until Congress acts, Medicare can't pay for these tests.

❗The bipartisan ASAP Act clears the roadblock.❗

Congress can take this common‑sense step so people can benefit from treatment when it matters most. This is our moment to make early detection the new standard of care.

🧠🫶Help amplify the message and ask your members of Congress to cosponsor and advance the ASAP Act by clicking this link: https://alz-action.quorum.us/campaign/ASAP/
