The Town of Sharon has become aware of reports of permit application scams targeting municipalities and applicants across the state including here in Sharon.

Falsified emails are being sent to applicants, which claim to approve their permit request and subsequently request wired payment for an "Application Review and Approval Fee."

These emails may include detailed invoices or requests for large payments, often through wire transfers. Some have originated from email addresses ending in .com, among other domains.

Scammers are becoming increasingly convincing and may use real names, addresses, departments and legitimate-looking documents to make their emails appear authentic.
These emails and invoices are not from the Town of Sharon.

Additionally, the Town of Sharon will never send an invoice asking for a wire payment.

If you receive one of these emails:
- Do not send money.
- Do not provide banking or personal information.
- Do not reply to the email
- Do not open attachments or click links.

If you are unsure if an invoice is fraudulent, please verify it by contacting the Town for assistance at 781-784-1525 Ext. 2310 or via email at [email protected].

If you believe you've been targeted by such a fraudulent email, make sure to notify the Sharon Police Department at 781-784-1587.
