Last week, volunteers from Company 11 conducted fire safety education at Pleasant Valley Elementary School. The children were taught important things such as: when and why to call 911, stop drop and roll, what to do if a smoke alarm goes off or their house is on fire, and more! They got to see around the fire engine and do everyone’s favorite…spray water.

October is National Fire Prevention Month, but fire prevention in your home should be considered all year round. Be on the look out for more safety tips throughout this month and go check out Chief’s fire safety tips on our page.

Train Accident IAO Keep Tryst Rd - 10/11/2026

At 1805hrs, Company 11, Company 8 (Boonsboro Fire Department) and Hazmat 20 (Washington County Division of Emergency Services) were alerted for a Train Accident near the Keep Tryst Rd Canal Access.

Engine 11-2, Utility 11/UTV 11, Chief 11 (Support 11-0), Deputy Chief 11 (Support 11-7), and 8FP11-3 (fire police) responded to the incident from Company 11. Engine Tanker 8, EMS 1812, and Hazmat 20 also responded.

While en route, units received information from ECC that 2 locomotives hit a tree causing an oil leak in one and a fuel leak in the other. Chief 11 arrived on scene and confirmed the information and established command.

Personnel from Company 11 and 8 worked to contain the leaks with absorbent and buckets. Upon the arrival of Hazmat 20, hazmat crews began to control and stop the large leak. UTV 11 was used throughout the incident to transport personnel and equipment from the staging area to the train.

Units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours before turning the scene over to the train company.

No injuries occurred during this incident.
