R***e hunting season hasn't been open for a week and already we have had a gunshot wound and a hunter falling from a tree blind.
Let's be safe out there!

Quite a complex rescue at Courtright Reservoir on Friday. Shaver Lake Fire Department worked alongside Fresno County Search and Rescue Mountaineering Team, California Highway Patrol, Fresno County Sheriff's Office, Fresno Cal Fire, and U.S. Forest Service - Sierra National Forest.

We avoided a 500ft rope rappel when CHP was able to pull the patient off the ledge using H70 from Paso Robles.

A big thank you to DripDrop and National Volunteer Fire Council for including us in the 2026 DripDrop Hydration Giveback Campaign! Shaver Lake Volunteer Fire Department received two cases of DripDrop electrolyte drink mix that we distributed to our firefighters at training this week. Fast hydration is essential for our firefighters working in summer heat, during wildfires, and on long calls.

This is a "must watch" documentary for anyone interested in the Creek Fire. Well made, and tells a story that few have heard in this detail. California National Guard pilots and crew deserve a great thanks for their bravery.

Are you seeing double? I am!
Little known fact... Captain Craven of the Shaver Lake Fire Department is father of Captain Craven of Cal Fire, who is station in Shaver Lake. So the Captains Craven is not an uncommon site in our mountain community.

The trees are all gone thanks to Indy Elming and his crew. We've got to test the soil and then start delivering tons of dirt to level out the pad. Exciting times for the new station build.

Saturday was our annual RT-130 Wildland Refresher. We train on Fire Shelters, line cutting, pump-and-roll, and hose lays. We threw in some pump tank training for the engineers.
Members of Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Huntington Lake Volunteer Fire Department joined us.
This is a required class that all fire departments train on every year in order to prepare themselves for wildland fire response.

A special thanks to Mountain Tripper Cafe & Tea House in Shaver for donating the much needed coffee to start our day. And a really big shout-out to Shaver neighbor Don Valenzuaela who made us all a huge lunch at his house. We really enjoyed it!
