This October, LSR firefighters and board members are wearing pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For our department, this cause hits especially close to home.
One of our own, firefighter Michelle Floyd, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. She faced months of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and unexpected complications. Through it all, she leaned on her faith, family, friends, and community for strength and support.
In a 2024 "Life in the Delta" article, Michelle shared an important message for others facing breast cancer, “You are only alone in this fight if you make yourself alone.”
As someone who volunteers her time helping others, Michelle knows the importance of being there for others. Her story reminds us that sometimes even those who answer the call need the support of their neighbors.
Today, we celebrate Michelle and all breast cancer survivors, stand with those still fighting, and remember those we've lost.
LSR wears pink — for our own and for every fighter.
