Sometimes, the best partnerships happen when you least expect them!

While responding to a call from a concerned citizen about a dog found on the side of a road, Johnson County Park Police Officer Moll met Hazel. Little did he know, that moment would change both of their lives! 🐶❤️

Officer Moll brought her to Great Plains SPCA to check if she had a chip and waited a few weeks to see if an owner would show up to claim her. No one showed up and so he decided to adopt Hazel, turning an unexpected encounter into a forever friendship.

Watch Officer Moll share Hazel’s story and how a call on the job turned into a whole lot of love. 🐾

PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE-Shawnee Mission Park

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, shortly before 6:00 p.m., officers with the Johnson County Park Police Department were dispatched to Shawnee Mission Park's Off-Leash Dog Area regarding an unknown medical emergency involving a possible person in the water.

Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, a park visitor noticed a dog interacting with her dog. The visitor subsequently observed the dog's owner, a male in his 60s, in the water and alerted emergency responders.

Officers arrived on scene along with personnel from the Lenexa Fire Department and Johnson County MED-ACT. Shortly after arriving, emergency responders located the male in the water. The male was unconscious but had a pulse.

Utilizing the Johnson County Park Police Department's patrol boat, officers and Lenexa Fire Department personnel worked together to safely transport the male from the water to a nearby ambulance. The male was subsequently transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Preliminary information suggests that the incident was accidental in nature, and there is no indication of foul play at this time.

The Johnson County Park Police Department would like to thank the Lenexa Fire Department, Johnson County MED-ACT, and all responding emergency personnel for their assistance and coordinated efforts during this incident.

🌟 OFFICER SPOTLIGHT!!! 🌟

Last week, Officer Rench-Vopat traveled to western Kansas to support an amazing cause she is passionate about!

For the 14th year, Officer Rench-Vopat assisted with conservation efforts to help restore the endangered black-footed ferret population. Her dedication to this effort goes beyond simply volunteering—she recently completed specialized training in anesthesia so she can assist veterinarians in the field with medical care during conservation operations.

Thank you, Officer Rench-Vopat, for your continued dedication and for bringing the same passion for service beyond our parks and into wildlife conservation.

Keep up the great work!
