So far in 2026, our department has taken about 208 calls of "car vs deer" accidents. We have also taken 1 car vs racoon and 1 car vs coyote call. So, today for "World Animal Road Accident Day," we wanted to remind you that:

1. You only need to make a report if you have $1000 (or more) worth of damage to your vehicle.

2. Do not attempt to move an injured deer.

3. If you do not know where you are, please call 911 so we can ping your location.

4. Please stay on the scene of the accident until we can get a deputy/officer over to you, but please move your vehicle out of traffic, if possible.

5. If you do not have time to report it when the accident happened, you can make a crash report on the Department of Transportation website: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/crsh-rpt/default.aspx . However, if the deer is in the roadway, please still give us a call so that we can send someone over to move it.

Wishing you all safe travels!
