Today, Shanghai Fire Department joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 innocent lives taken that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and all of the first responders who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the unity our nation showed in the days that followed. We also remember those who later lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

May we never forget those who answered their final alarm, the families who never saw their loved ones come home, and the sacrifices made that day and in the years since.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — Never Forget. 🇺🇸

For more than 28 years, Don shared his knowledge and experience with generations of Fire and EMS students at CCC, serving most recently as our lead EMT instructor. His commitment to public safety extended far beyond the classroom through his service as a retired Shelby Fire Department Captain and former Fire Chief of Number 7 Volunteer Fire Department.

Don dedicated his life to serving, teaching, and preparing others to serve their communities. We extend our deepest condolences to Don’s family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire public safety community.

🌫️ Motor Vehicle Accident – Maple Springs Ch Rd🐄

Earlier this morning, Shanghai Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and a cow. Fortunately, the incident did not result in serious injuries.

Fog can significantly reduce visibility and the amount of time a driver has to react to a hazard. When traveling in foggy conditions, slow down, increase your following distance, use your headlights, and stay alert.

⚠️ Always expect the unexpected. Whether it’s an animal entering the roadway, a stopped vehicle, debris, or another unexpected hazard, reducing your speed can give you the extra seconds needed to react safely.

Slow down. Stay alert. Expect the unexpected. Arrive safely.

🚨 Motor Vehicle Accident – College Ave. 🚨

Shanghai Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on College Ave. One patient sustained injuries requiring air medical transport and was airlifted to the hospital by Regional One Air Medical. Good job by all involved, Cleveland County EMS and Shanghai Fire Dept personnel!

As motorcycles continue to share our roadways, we encourage all motorists to remain alert and use extra caution. Look twice and save a life. Motorcycles can be difficult to see, especially at intersections and while changing lanes.

🏍️ Share the road. Check your mirrors. Check your blind spots. Give motorcycles plenty of space.

Stay alert. Slow down. Arrive safely.

🚨 INCIDENT RESPONSE 🚨

Earlier today, Shanghai Fire Department responded to a potentially serious motor vehicle accident within our fire district on College Ave between Old Boiling Springs Rd and Peck Pl. Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, the response also developed into a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) operation, requiring additional resources and coordination on scene.

Our crews worked alongside our mutual-aid partners to provide emergency care, secure the scene, and assist with the incident. Thankfully, situations like these are exactly why strong teamwork between our local emergency services is so important.

We would like to extend a Special Thank You to Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue, Cleveland County EMS, and Cleveland County EM for their assistance, teamwork, and education on this incident. We’re fortunate to have great neighboring agencies that are always ready to work together when our community needs us most.

Please remember to slow down, stay alert, and give emergency personnel plenty of room when approaching an accident scene.
