💯% Correct Chairman State Representative Chris Miller - Illinois First
I no longer recognize Jim Durkin as a member of the Republican Party.
His endorsement of JB Pritzker for Governor is further proof that he never cared about good public policy.
In 2017, Durkin allowed 14 of his members to vote for the largest permanent income tax increase in state history. That tax increase fueled much of the ever-increasing budgets under Pritzker.
In 2019, he walked into our Republican Caucus and demanded that 20 Republicans vote for doubling the gas that was put on a permanent escalator every year. That bill included a 50% increase in vehicle registration fees and other fee increases. Now, the interest on that money is being used to bail out the Chicago transit system.
In that same year, Durkin demanded that 10 Republicans vote for Pritzker’s first budget which was the largest general revenue budget in state history. Each subsequent budget has been higher than the previous one.
Under Durkin, the Republican Caucus slipped back into super-minority, losing 7 seats in his final year as leader.
Under Pritzker, Illinois ranks near the bottom for job growth and at the top for taxes, out-migration, and debt. We are the abortion capital of the Midwest and assisted su***de just became legal on September 11, 2026. This is the agenda Durkin endorses when he endorses Pritzker.
As a former prosecutor, Durkin should know that the SAFE-T Act and sanctuary state law has made us less safe. He doesn’t care and in fact, voted for more gun control as Republican leader.
Jim Durkin will always be known as a traitor to Republicans and when Pritzker continues to enact radical progressive policies and kowtow to special interests, Durkin will own the results of those policies, too.
