BEGINNING MONDAY Take Note

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Overnight Lane and Ramp Closures on I-64 Beginning Monday, Oct. 12, in Shelby County.

Contract crews to mill and pave ramps as part of I-64 widening project

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of overnight lane and ramp closures on Interstate 64 beginning on Monday, Oct. 12, as part of the $118 million widening and improvement project of I-64 in Shelby County.

The upcoming overnight lane and ramp closures are necessary for contract crews to mill and pave the interstate ramps as work continues to progress on the project. Details of the upcoming traffic restrictions are listed below.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m., through Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 a.m.:
• The I-64 East off-ramp to KY 55 (Taylorsville Road) at Exit 32 will be closed. Additionally, the on and off-ramps to the I-64 East Shelby County Rest Area near mile marker 28 will be closed, and the eastbound Rest Area will be inaccessible during this timeframe.

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m., through Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 a.m.:
• The I-64 East on-ramp from KY 55 (Taylorsville Road) and the I-64 West off-ramp to KY 55 (Taylorsville Road) at Exit 32 will be closed.

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m., through Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 a.m.:
• The I-64 West on-ramp from KY 55 (Taylorsville Road) will be closed.

In addition to the listed overnight ramp closures, right lane closures are expected along the interstate to accommodate milling and paving operations. Motorists should heed signage, use caution when traveling through the work zone, and plan ahead for travel delays.
All work being performed is part of the $118 million I-64 widening and improvement project in Shelby County, which began in February 2025. The project will increase capacity, upgrade a key interchange, and modernize bridges, ensuring a more efficient and reliable transportation network for motorists.

The interstate project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027.
