Sheldon Fire Department Open House 2026 was a huge success! Many of our neighbors young and old got to visit with Sparky, put out fires in the burning house, play in the bouncy house, try some rescue rope throw co****le, watch some firefighter demonstrations, learn some fire safety tips in the Vermont Division of Fire Safety trailer and eat some well-prepared free lunch. Many baked sweets were available locally made by FD members and families. A drop off bottle drive collected many large bags of redeemable bottles and cans. This fun event brought many community members to the Sheldon Fire Station for the first time, if you liked what you saw we have turnout gear available and offer on the job training. Hope to see you soon. Thanks to those members that spent numerous hours planning today's event on the eve of 2026 Fire Prevention week. Always practice fire prevention.

Sheldon Firefighters drafting from Black Creek behind the Sheldon Historical Society. By utilizing suction between the dry hydrant and the side intake and the front intake with approximately 40' suction into the river flows exceeding 1,600 gallons per minute were achieved. It is always our job to be prepared.

Sheldon Firefighters recently performed vehicle extrication training. Members utilized our HURST battery powered JAWS OF LIFE as well as our older hydraulic tools. The newer technology proved much faster and more powerful. Sheldon Fire Department would like to thank Tdi Towing for providing the cars for our members to stay proficient at this important skill.

Sheldon Firefighters recently reorganized our compartments to allow better storage and deployment of the life saving equipment during emergencies.TDI Towing

Sheldon Firefighters created a window prop that utilizes sheetrock to simulate windows. This realistic training requires the use of hand tools to gain access, then they sound the floor to ensure they are entering onto a solid floor. In the pictures Sheldon Firefighters are performing VES Vent, Enter, Search drills. The training also introduced some members into an emergency escape procedure called hook 2 grab 4 which allows the firefighter to exit very low through the window frame and quickly escape the upper floor when conditions are deteriorating rapidly.
