There have been a few complaints of properties with poultry. Here are two snips from the city ordinances that you can find on our website.

55.05 LIVESTOCK. It is unlawful for a person to keep livestock within the corporate limits of
the City unless done so in an area that is zoned as Class A Agricultural District.

“Livestock” means an animal belonging to the bovine, caprine, equine, ovine or
porcine species, ostriches, rheas, and emus; farm deer (as defined in Section 170.1 of the Code of Iowa); or poultry.

These reports will be investigated with the proper actions taken.

From the desk of Public Works,
As fall has arrived and winter is approaching, the crew has shut off the fountain and the drinking fountain for the season. The Park Pavilion rental book is closed for the year and will reopen next year in March with weather permitting.

Hoodie found in the play park, currently at City Hall. City Hall will be open till 5pm today Friday the 16th.

This time tomorrow the Canton, Benton, Shellsburg Fire Dept's yearly fireman's breakfast will be taking place. Year after year our local volunteers spend their weekend to provide you an awesome breakfast spread. This is one of their primary fundraisers so it's very important that we all go, enjoy, and most importantly fill the boot with donations.

This group will run at the drop of a tone no matter where they're at. Work, family, or fun when that call comes in it all changes. They selfishly do that for us so let it be our turn to adjust our routines for them. See you for breakfast!

October is one of my favorite months as the weather starts to change, bringing fresh colors to town. I've asked the council to make a plan this fall to help replace sidewalks that are missing or in disrepair. We would like to start that process this coming spring. Over the next month or so there will be some exciting announcements from different corners of town and I can't wait to see everyone's goals come together. Again, this community wouldn't be nearly as awesome if it wasn't for everyone that makes it up! -Shadoe-
