Proud to play a part in this House Majority.
Kentucky's fiscal year ended on June 30 with a $320 million budget surplus.
What creates a budget surplus? It's not bigger government, more spending, or manufacturing crises designed to grab headlines despite hurting people.
It's trusting Kentuckians to keep more of the money they earn. It's supporting workers and employers so our economy can grow. It's meeting the Commonwealth's most important needs while making strategic investments in programs that deliver real results.
It's also taking a hard look at how government operates to find efficiencies, make programs work better, and eliminate those that are outdated, duplicative, or no longer serve the people they were created to help.
At its core, a surplus comes from responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and a commitment to effective governing. It comes from remembering that state government exists to serve the people of Kentucky and not the other way around.
Leading Kentucky takes the hard work of good government, and we're grateful to our leadership, House Appropriations and Revenue Chair Jason Petrie, KY Representative, vice chairs Rep. Adam Bowling and Rep. Josh Bray, as well as leaders of the budget review subcommittees, including Rep. Chris Fugate, Shawn McPherson, State Representative- District 22, Chris Freeland 6th District State Representative, Mark Hart, Wade Williams - State Representative HD 4, Stephanie A. Dietz, State Representative- District 65, Walker Wood Thomas, KY State Representative, District 8, Steve Riley-Kentucky 23rd District State Representative, and Rep. Ken Upchurch.
