The MammoVan technicians and driver are very helpful, and the van itself is well equipped and has two dressing rooms. I am delighted that UAMS is helping women across our state, and especially in our rural areas, access preventative care.

Yesterday, the MammoVan from the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute was at Jacksonville Medical Care on Braden Street. It was a pleasure to meet the staff and take a tour.

Supported by the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and the Arkansas Department of Health, the MammoVans are mobile mammography units that regularly travel the state to offer state-of-the-art and easily accessible screening mammography services. Over the last two years, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute has invested over $5 million in new MammoVans. Since 2010, the MammoVan program has served 24,944 women in Arkansas. The program seeks to eliminate obstacles to screening including cost, time away from work, and travel. Patients are mailed the results of their exam. If they require follow-up scans or treatment, they receive a call from a team member who can help them navigate through that process. For many, this is a life-saving experience. The MammoVan has detected early-stage breast cancers in 145 women to date.
