Happy Homecoming! Whether you are a current student or an alumnus, traveled near or far, enjoy taking part in Homecoming festivities happening from October 16-17th.

Can you believe that this year marks 101 years since the first Homecoming at Shippensburg University? The inaugural event took place on Halloween of 1925, having been postponed the year prior when the game against Lebanon was canceled. Here, students, both past and present, gathered at Heiges Field to watch the Raiders battle against West Chester. Since this time, the tradition has carried on and grown more expansive. Homecoming provides an opportunity to reconnect and share the spirit of what makes Ship so special.

This year's Homecoming football game is scheduled for 1:00 PM today, against East Stroudsburg. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. To learn more about other events happening for Homecoming 2026 check out here: https://www.ship.edu/alumni/homecoming/

Today kicks off National Banned Book Week, which highlights current censorship campaigns across the United States. According to the American Library Association, 4235 books were challenged in 2025. This marks the second-highest recorded attempt to ban books since the ALA began to track the data in 1982.

As a part of this week, the library will be hosting a Blind Date with a Banned Book initiative, which encourages you to check out a book that has been targeted in a book banning campaign.

You can find these books on the main level of the library. Choose one that calls to you and head to the circulation desk to get started.

Happy National Comics Day!

While not an officially recognized holiday, fan led efforts over the years have grown the day from a niche observance to a wide-spread celebration.

Check out this "Super Raider" comic, created by the staff of the Slate, celebrating the 1963 renovation of the Raider Room, a communal space in Old Main where students could relax and socialize.

Shoutout to our awesome archives Graduate Assistant, Riley MacIntyre, who created this new exhibit on the History of Homecoming.

Riley conceived of the entire exhibit on his own from finding items, researching, writing labels and setting up the display. We think he did a great job!

If you are in the library, make sure to check it out (found to the left of the microfilm reader on the main floor) and leave a note about your favorite Homecoming memory.

Thank you to everyone who showed up this morning to the reading of the preamble with President Charles Patterson and GBLUES students. Even with the unexpected location change, there was a great turnout! 🇺🇸

We also had many students come to the library to check out their artwork, featured in our new Constitution Day Exhibit.

Don't forget to visit Grove Hall tonight at 6 pm to see a lecture by Dr. Shaakirah R. Sanders on the Antiracism and the Constitution.
