We had the great good fortune yesterday of hosting SEK, CPAs & Advisors  for the United Way day of caring. The volunteers did super work! We trail maintainers really appreciate it. Thanks to United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County for organizing.

The SCPRA is in the process of helping to extend the rail trail from Ship Station to Orrstown Road.

Director Josh Mitchell, who oversees the project for the Park Authority, said — “phase 1 of this vision is getting closer to completion. Thanks to the determination and hard work of a lot of people we’re hoping final design and engineering will conclude soon.”

The trail extension will add another 1.3 miles of pedestrian pathway for users of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, heading in a south-west direction.

Starting tomorrow, for the first few weeks in September, PPL will be doing wire work on the rail trail between Newville and Carlisle. If you are using the rail trail and you come upon them, you have to stay clear.

We have been informed that PPL will be working on the wires between Newville and Carlisle starting August 31. The trail will be closed in the vicinity of their work. We will post more information as we receive it.
